Haiti and my Gratitude

 Update

English Mum had the great idea of setting up Bloggers For Haiti page to enable people to donate easily towards the ingenious Shelter Boxes. These boxes offer a lifeline to those poor devastated people who are in the middle of 'hell' at the moment and for the forseeable future.

Please help if you can by donating here or getting the world spread as far as possible. It only takes a couple of minutes and if you have a paypal account even quicker!

These people need our help and urgently.

Thank you.

Haiti, an already impoverished country was struck by a devastating earthquake on 12th January 2010

measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale has struck Haiti causing an unfolding humanitarian crisis. Children have been killed and injured — many are in desperate need of clean water, shelter and medical help. Early reports indicate a large number of casualties and widespread damage.
The situation for Haiti was already difficult before the earthquake hit the island. Haiti is the one of the poorest countries in the world and is struggling to recover from years of violence, insecurity and massive natural disasters. More than half of the country's 9.6 million inhabitants are under 21 years of age.

This week I am grateful for

1. A roof over our heads

2. Fresh, clean, safe water

3. My children being safe, healthy and unhurt

4. Adequate hospital facilities in the event that we need them

5. Plentiful food

6. The work of Aid agencies

7. For not living in a country which is susceptible to major natural disasters- the UK comes to a standstill with snow for goodness sake!

And

8. For living in a politically stable country

You can donate on all of these sites.

You can now donate by paypal on the Oxfam and Unicef sites.

These donations help fund water kits, hygiene kits, latrines, buckets, medical attention and other necessities.

Well done for everyone who is supporting help for Haiti. We are giving via Christian Aid but I think they will be needing our support for years to come.

This post reminded me of how I used to ignore my mother. It made me feel a little guilty.

A single mother of many children struggling to come to terms with the shock departure of her husband, his addictions, infidelity and lies
